The Inaugural 450 Class Race (1994)

The first 450 Class race at Budds Creek took place on May 22, 1994. That day, Mike LaRocco made history by sweeping both motos aboard his Kawasaki during a season that saw him crowned the 450 Class champion. LaRocco's dominance continued into 1995, where he won the first moto before Jeremy McGrath clinched the second moto and the overall victory. However, the 1995 event is best remembered for Doug Henry’s unforgettable crash. Soaring through the Maryland skies, Henry came crashing down at the bottom of a large hill, etching the moment into motocross history. That hill is now famously known as "Henry Hill," a challenging obstacle that has tested riders for over 30 years.

30 Years of Thrills and Spills

Budds Creek has been an integral part of the Pro Motocross Championship since 1989, though the track's early years hosted 125cc and 500cc rounds from 1989-1992. During that period, Jeff Ward, Jeff Stanton (who won twice), and Jean-Michel Bayle took home victories in the 500cc class. After a brief hiatus in 1993, Budds Creek returned to the championship circuit in 1994, marking the beginning of its 450 Class legacy. Since then, it has been a battleground for the sport's top athletes, with the upcoming 2024 event marking the 30th 450 Class round at this historic venue.
